Realizing your Dreams and Goals

Do you remember those dreams and goals you've once had? Those Big Dreams you've said you'll someday set out to live? Do you remember which House you've said you'll buy, or would build? Do you remember the car you've said you'll have? Maybe you remember other Big promises you've made: Being an Millionaire or Financially Free; Traveling the World; Helping the Poor; Saving the Environment, etc.? - "How is it going so far?", Are you where you once saw you'd be: Maybe some steps behind, or very far from it and standing still?

I bet, that most of you who are reading this right now, are those who have once or twice, even thrice or more, set their goals high, yet never have exceeded them - but do you know why? Do you know why you've never reached your goal, the destination you aimed for? Why all this struggle and pain you've gone through seemed so hopeless and pointless? Do you know the actual reason why you've failed?
To be honest, the reason why most of us fail to live our dream life and have a lifestyle we really want is because we do not realize our dreams and goals. Sure consciously we know what we want to achieve, but knowing itself isn't always enough, because we do not realize how capable we really are: We don't know, how much we can achieve...

When I was a Boy Scout, we played a game when new Scouts joined the troop. We lined up chairs in a pattern, creating an obstacle course through which the new Scouts, blindfolded, were supposed to maneuver. The Scoutmaster gave them a few moments to study the pattern before our adventure began. But as soon as the victims were blindfolded, the rest of us quietly removed the chairs. I think life is like this game. Perhaps we spend our lives avoiding obstacles we have created for ourselves and in reality exist only in our minds. We're afraid to apply for that job, take violin lessons, learn a foreign language, call an old friend, write our Congressman - whatever it is that we would really like to do but don't because of personal obstacles. Don't avoid any chairs until you run smack into one. And if you do, at least you'll have a place to sit down.
